Description
MC-Silicone Seal W.B is a silicone-based water-repellent liquid for porous building surfaces.
Where to use
Water-repellent treatment of porous masonry and stone materials including concrete, plaster, brick, limestone and sandstone. Creating a barrier against rising damp in conventional masonry walls where no damp-proof course exists or where the existing course has failed, as stated by the source.
Advantages
Helps stop water at the surface before it penetrates porous masonry. Penetration depth up to approximately 10 mm, as stated by the source. Colourless treatment that does not materially alter the appearance of the substrate. Helps limit moss/algae growth and efflorescence. Helps reduce sensitivity to freeze-thaw cycles. The source states that rising-damp treatment may become effective within approximately 2-3 days, depending on substrate and conditions.
Source notes
The source recommends periodic retreatment approximately every 4-5 years where required to maintain maximum efficiency. Allow the material to react for approximately 3-7 days before certain subsequent work, depending on substrate and temperature. The solution is alkaline; avoid skin and eye contact and avoid splashes onto metal and timber wall components.
Application methods
Rising damp: drill holes at specified intervals in a brick course near the base of the wall, then inject the product under pressure to create a continuous water-repellent barrier. Indicative source consumption: 100 L treats approximately 5-25 linear metres depending on wall thickness and material. Plaster treatment: spray or brush the solution to saturation; the source states approximately 1-5 m² coverage per litre. Roof tiles and bricks: soak in a 10% solution of MC-Silicone Seal W.B for approximately 1-5 minutes depending on shape and material.
Working precautions
Alkaline solution - use appropriate personal protection and prevent skin and eye contact. Avoid direct spraying onto metal and timber wall components. Observe the required reaction period before subsequent work according to substrate and temperature.
