Description

MC-Poly Seal 2 is a two-component high-performance polysulphide joint sealant. It is available as a non-sag grade for vertical/overhead joints and a self-levelling/pourable grade for horizontal joints.

Where to use

Sealing construction and expansion joints in sewage works, reservoirs, swimming pools, bridges and structures subject to movement or vibration. Glazing assemblies, curtain-wall systems and structures exposed to thermal movement and wind-pressure variation. Joint width should be sufficient to accommodate the expected movement; the source provides dimensional guidance for width-to-depth proportions.

Advantages

Select the appropriate grade for vertical, overhead or horizontal application. Non-biodegradable; suitable for sewage works and exposed weather conditions, as stated by the source. Good resistance to chemicals, oils and petroleum products. The source references ASTM C-920, ASTM C-1193, BS 4254, DIN 18540 and US Fed TT-S-227E.

Joint design

Joint width should accommodate expected movement; the source states a width of approximately four times the expected movement. For joints up to 12.7 mm wide, depth is approximately equal to width. For widths from 12.7 to 25 mm, depth is approximately half the width. For widths from 25 to 50 mm, the source states a maximum depth of approximately 12.7 mm.

Application

Joint surfaces must be clean and dry; compressed air is recommended for dust removal where appropriate. Prime porous substrates such as concrete using MC-Poly Seal Primer according to its TDS. Use a closed-cell polyethylene backing material such as MC-Master Back to control sealant depth. Mix the components thoroughly with a mechanical mixer at approximately 400-500 rpm. After primer drying and installation of backing material, apply non-sag grade with a sealant gun or knife; tool the surface as required.

Safety & cleaning

Clean tools and equipment with a suitable thinner before the material cures. Prevent material entering the eyes and avoid skin contact. Provide adequate ventilation.
